Special
Supervision Services
SSS is a DUI monitoring program approved in 1986 by the Florida Legislature to provide a reasonably safe mechanism for individuals with 5 or 10 year suspensions to drive for "necessary life functions". In 1998, permanent revocations were denied access to this program. Participation in the program requires compliance with a case monitoring plan, abstinence from alcohol/drug, routine urine/blood screens. Monthly monitoring appointments are required with a certified evaluator until recommended for a change in status. Treatment for substance abuse concerns is frequently required. Only individuals who have made a significant life change will be considered for this program. Effective October 1, 2010 A driver permanently revoked for driving under the influence may make application to the department for a restricted driver license 10-years after the last conviction and upon meeting all other requirements of the law. Effective October 1, 2011 A driver permanently revoked for driving under the influence may make application to the department for a restricted driver license 5-years after the last conviction and upon meeting all other requirements of the law. Criteria for Applicants can be obtained from the Department of Highway Safety & Motor Vehicles or from the CORE Program Office. Fees for Special Supervision Services include: Application Fee - $307 * Fees are set and regulated by the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles. IGNITION INTERLOCK SERVICES Any one being convicted of a DUI on or after July 1, 2002 will be required to have an Interlock device installed on any vehicle owned by them. First offenders with a blood alcohol of .15 or above will also be required to have the Interlock device. First time offenders (or multiple) driving under the influence with a minor in the car will be required to have the Interlock device. Ignition
Interlock Device: The ignition interlock is an
electronic breath-monitoring device installed by court order on the
ignition system of vehicles driven by persons convicted of DUI
offenses. The device requires a breath test to start and
periodically to continue operation of the vehicle. If a driver has violated the program requirements by
testing positive for alcohol, the Department of Highway and Motor Vehicles
is notified and will order the driver to visit a DUI Program to
participate in a Ignition Interlock Device Program Orientation to review
the program requirements. If the driver has violated the program requirements
by testing positive for alcohol two or more times, they will be required
to report to the DUI Program to develop a case management plan including
monthly monitoring appointments and possible referral to treatment in
order to remain in compliance with the Ignition Interlock program
requirements. Additional information is available at the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles. The Department is contracting privately with Interlock companies for installation and monitoring. NOTE: THE CORE PROGRAM's DUI component is not the interlock provider. For more information on the Interlock device please visit the Ignition Interlock Program website offered by the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles.
